Capilla Pilar

Saint John's Church and Pilar's Chapel

To the south of the Villa, it is defined as a church-fortress. The south doorway or "of the grandparents" is Gothic in style and is decorated with columns representing the Annunciation. The plan is of a Latin cross with three apses and a transept. The baroque altarpiece is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. At the foot of the church is the Capilla del Pilar from the late Baroque period, which was built destroying a Gothic doorway, of which there is still the image of the Virgin and the pillar. The Gothic tower, was one of the gates of the wall being renovated in the s. XVI to fulfill its current function as a bell tower.
