La Virgen's Day

La Virgen's Day

The dawn song was a custom and habitual practice in many parts of the world. Its origin cannot be specified, nor the reason for its introduction in Alava.

The term aurora in this context must be interpreted in two ways: denotative and metaphorical. Denotatively by the word aurora we mean the rosy light that precedes sunrise. She is the announcer of the astro-king. Therefore, the rosary that bears his name was the one that was sung at dawn. Metaphorically, the dawn is Mary, forerunner of the coming of her son Jesus, who is the sun.

The Rosario de la Aurora is celebrated during the novena in honor of the Virgen de los Reyes, and in honor of the Virgen del Pilar, from August 14 to 22 and from September 7 to 15 respectively.

The rosary is preceded by the singing of some verses. They are songs in honor of the Virgin and constitute the invitation or call to the Rosary.

In Laguardia two verses are sung, some in honor of the Blessed Virgin of the Kings, and others in honor of the Blessed Virgin of Pilar.

In addition, on August 14 and 15, there are festive events including a brotherhood meal open to the public.
